If your neighborhood allows it, I recommend chickens. They are a fun pet, and it's a good way to keep busy. Plus, free eggs!

Go to a LOWES or Home Depot in the garden section ask the sales person what kinds of things you may need for a pond. Those Japanese goldfish are so cool too.

I have been thinking of putting in an ornamental pond, myself. I've gotten a couple of books on in, and they really are alot of work, and pretty expensive. Of course you'd probably want to build it yourself. There are stores that carry all kinds of stuff for one-Southern States, Home Depot, and Lowes, as well as places that deal exclusively for ponds. If you want to add fish, the water must be balanced, which is hard to do, and koi cost alot.

I would recommend you do a search at the HGTV web site for pond instructions. You probably would find some information at the DIY network site also.
