I don't believe we hope to accomplish anything. The thumb ratings I thought were to show that you either agree or disagree with an opinion.
I use the thumbs up and down a lot. Especially when a question already has several of the same answers, and so I just let the asker know I agree with the statement or not.
I also use the thumbs down when people just give stupid answers to be smart a**, or real negative nasty comments.

I just click the mouse. I don't get any more excited than that. I will give answers a thumbs down if (1) they are wrong or (2) thier response has nothing to do with the question. What do I accomplish? I don't have to see their answer when I scroll through other peoples responses.

solid question, yet i like to respond to incredibly stupid "questions" (the stupider the question, in many circumstances the shorter my answer), and demonstrate the hypocrisy of the asker. My answering in this is rather medical look after my anger administration, designed to help me be taught the thank you to insult trolls without them even figuring out they are being insulted intellectually. yet i digress. your premise is incredibly valid, because of the fact the askers of maximum questions the two do no longer care approximately any solutions, (they ask just to sell hate and divisiveness) or they ask just to slam the different side for despite reason. Agreed, little is carried out, yet often times (granted, no longer very many times) somebody asks an extremely solid, considerate question, and those are the in basic terms right ones to respond to.

They hope 49 other people will think the same thing and the answer will get deleted.

But my lame thumbs-down troll looks a bit pathetic, because I only get one from them, or two if they use their other account as well.

Thumbing someone down can lead to points being deducted.
I have only given certain ppl one...like Smitty, Skinhead Charlie, and a few others, simply for the disgusting answers they give.

I don't do thumbs down too often
I try to be positive
but if I do a thumbs down this is because I found
someone offensive.

Just picture them sitting there clicking away, maybe even swearing or giggling as they are doing it. It's sad isn't it?
I'm not talking about the occasional thumbs down on an answer. I'm talking about the ones who will go down every answer and just thumbs down it for no reason.

The satisfaction of showing the world someone (the person doing the thumbs down-ing) thinks that answer (or person) sucks.

I think they hope that other people will agree with them and then the answerer will look at it and think,"Oh no! MULTIPLE thumbs down? Nobody likes me. My answer must have really stunk."
