20% at a minimum, but I've been known to go up to 50%. I like putting a smile on somebodies face, especially if its a cute or just haggard one. Of course, being known as a good tipper in a restaurant has its benefits.

Yes. Generously. 15 to 20 % or more depending upon the quality of the service. Waiters and waitresses make less than minimum wage, thanks to the IRS. The IRS has decided that tips are a hidden income, so they have to declare tips to the boss so they can be taxed on it. I'd be upset if I were making less than minimum wage and people didn't tip me. Imagine a weekly check of $2.35 an hour and no tips. (That would be $94 for a 40 hour week.) They depend on their tips to survive.

Always! I was a waitress at a casino before and I know how hectic the waiting business can be. The waiters and waitresses have to rely on those tips to make a living.

I personally tip between 18-20% if I have a great wait person, 15% if they are just good, and 7-10% if they are only mediocre. I always base my decision on the level of service I receive. If the waitperson never lets my drink cup get empty, and makes sure my dining experience is a good one, than I'm going to make sure and give them a good tip. If I have to stand on the table and flag them down from across the restaurant, I'm leaving nothing.

I generally tip 15% of the total bill. I only tip if the service is good. I tip that amount because it is about the same amount that the more upscale resturants add to your bill as a tip. Most of the resturants I go to aren't fancy enough to add the tip right into the bill.

20 percent for good service, 15 for average, 0 to 10 for poor. If the food is poor and the wait staff tries to correct it, i don't hold it against them. If the service is poor, and the food is good then I will adjust my tip accordingly. I was a waitress and you learn a ton about customer service, no nicey no money.
the other night, i was seated to wait for my family, Two waitresses stood, I kid you not, three feet in front of me and had a fifteen minute fight over who "had" to wait on my table.
I didn't tip them................

i tip usually 4-5 bucks, because it is always 2 adults and a child with us when we go out to eat...and we aren't very picky or try to run the waiter/waitress ragged, plus the restaurant is usually not expensive.

Usually 20% because it's easier to figure out in my head. =]
I think 15% is better though at more expensive restaurants. I tip 20% at Coney Island and places like that. If the service is good at a nice place, then 20% is good.
