The reason that we have not been back to the moon is because the original missions to the moon really had nothing to do with the exploration of the moon. Think about it...back in the early 60's, what possible use would the US Government have for going to the moon?
However, at the same time, you might recall, the US was having a little issue with one of its neighbors, aka USSR. The whole Cold War thing. Think of at the time, what other application could launching rockets to predetermined targets might have? That's right! Nuclear missles. Guess how many Apollo missions had an actual scientist on it...1, the last. The first scientist to go to the moon was also the last.
As for will we ever go back to the moon...I kind of doubt it in the forseeable future. People are too ignorant to care about the exploration of the solar system and universe. They are too busy finding out about Lindsey Lohan being arrested again. Unless the private sector takes over, I do not think we are going to see another moon landing for at least 20 years.

first we did in fact go to the moon you can test this yourself. Apollo 11 left a prism in the sea of tranquility to measure the exact distance from the earth to the moon. second all the landings where at the equator, because it's much flatter and easier to land on. all the interesting areas are the poles where evidence of water is. the Apollo missions where canceled because they were stupidly expensive and NASA realized the need for a reusable craft as well as orbiting space stations. back to the water thing every gram of weight costs $$$ because of launch cost. to build a lunar base resources must be found there specifically water and oxygen found in rock and soil. and the DARK SIDE has been mapped via orbiting probe. As far as a reason to go back when you flip a light switch do you ever think about what it takes to make the light go on? No JACK### there's no oil on the moon but from the rocks brought back we know it's loaded with Helium 3 the perfect fuel for fusion reactors that does not leave any radioactive waste that is not found naturally on earth (remember the moon is not the earth it is a completely different celestial body with a lot of different elements) so you'll have the electricity to spread all the stupidity and ignorance you want over the web. by the way bush haters oil as an energy form will be gone in the next 20-30 years. and 3rd hoax people what exactly were we lacking in the 60's computers really are not needed. do you need a computer to navagate your car. no you stear it where you want to go. any plane I've ever piloted did not have a computer. when i fly my hang glider feeling for lift there is no electronics what-so-ever. the germans attacked england with v2 rockets in WW2 and had plans for an orbiting space station as well as a low earth orbitor capable of dropping a nuke anywhere on the planet. and for private sector after basic life support has been established a couple of major hotel chains want to establish lunar tourism. privete sector is already involved in the transportation part remember the X - PRIZE.

The earth has been bombarded lots extra beneficial than the moon. specially simply by fact the earth has a lots bigger floor section. yet a number of the craters on the moon are Billions of years previous, the place-because it could be only approximately impossible to locate one on the earth that previous. the clarification is. that the earth has a much extra effectual environment than the moon. distinctive the meteors that hit the earth actual landed in the sea and their result became immediatly lined up by means of water. lots of the smaller metiors burned up in the ambience, and others have been eroded away by means of wind or rain. so a techniques as modern-day meteor strikes pass. we would in all probability build paying for department stores on suitable of the craters earlier they even had a great gamble to sit down back off. the respond on your question nevertheless is. The moons floor is like that's, simply by fact it has no important environment, so there's no water and wind to tender issues out.

In response to some of the other answerers, no, there is NO compelling evidence that we never went to the moon. There is only ignorance and misinterpretation regarding the facts of the Apollo Missions. It is not a case of "What I believe in", it's a question of properly understanding the facts or not properly understanding them. You can believe the Earth is flat if you want to but that has little to do with reality.
Dig a little deeper than conspiracy e-mails and tabloid quality "documentaries" on Fox and you'll find that the conspiracy evidence has been thoroughly and unequivocally debunked.

Heh heh...um, well, this is kind of humorous, but you just answered your own question!
But I agree with you! Exploration to the Moon and other planets in this big universe can provide very useful and vital information! And who knows, when this junky, mistreated planet Earth blows up from nuclear war and pollution and all the other plagues that haunt us, the Moon may be our only haven to start anew. I hope.
Ah, I talk to much. But people must realize that space travel is important!

According to sources I have read, there is a lot of compelling evidence that man never went to the moon; it was a giant hoax put on with the help of Hollywood movie studios. And space exploration as done by the world governments, is NOT for the purpose they state, but for a far more sinister purpose. Besides, the moon is an artificial object; there is nothing natural about it.

We had better spend our limited space dollars on satellites that service the Earth. These birds are failing and some are scheduled to go out of service in a couple of years....and everything from weather to telecommunications depends on them.
Apollo did its job-it proved the moon is a worthless (in terms of resources) rock, and proved to Russia if we wanted to build a damn vehicle that would land on said rock, we could.

I hope you don't mind correcting you question (according to me the question should be):
Why do people say there is no point going to the moon?
I am one of those people who believe that no one has ever gone to the moon. Nobody needs to change their opinion or give me a low rating because of that. It is just my belief.
And about your question:
Who do you count as people? The local community people or the government people?
I can't believe people are saying that! It's not like they have searched the whole moon or something. They have not even seen the dark side. Anything could be hidden there...Anything mysterious. How do they know? If one person can make a difference then, I say that we should go to the moon (for real this time).
