I think that the political parties (Republican and Democrat) are not needed. I think Republican and Democrat, Liberal and Conservative, Left-wing and Right-wing should not matter. It is possible for a politician to have Liberal views on some issues, and conservative views on others. This was what Hillary Clinton was ACCUSED of regarding the war. I think its wrong to force her or anyone else of backpedaling. I think it should be ok if she (or anyone else) to run as one platform but maybe have the opposite view on some issues...your thoughts?

Sorry, you're not making much sense. A politician needs a set of ideas to formulate a following. It doesn't matter where those ideas come from, when they coalesce into a group of ideas that the candidates followers believe in, it's called a platform, and by sticking to it, (or not!) the voters can then measure their candidate by it. If a candidate doesn't stick to the promises of the platform, the voters get rid of them for then next cycle.

I agree. The other part of that is how eager people are to criticize an individual candidate simply on the degree to which he veers from the "party line". Apparently there are official molds into which each party candidate must fit - a procrustean bed of political views.

Well, for those that are smart enough to really pay attention to the candidates, great. But for those that are a little less attentive and aren't very aware of what is going on, political parties are the only thing they have to go on.

I agree with removing the concept of parties.

Platforms -- meaning what each candidate stands for -- are necessary, but should be individual to each candidate.
