Maybe the rotor was not honed properly and possibly warped durring the process due to heat. The pads could also be cheap pads, there are different materials used to make different types of pads. Some wear down faster than others, but the harder type can cause noise. Lastly, it could be worn ore loose break calipers. It is unlikely to be dirt since you just changed them.

My X has a 2000 Focus and this is unfortunatly typical even when the brakes are in really good shape. I had a similar problem with my VW Jetta, Rabbit GTI, and Rabbit years ago. I resolved it with that blue anti-squeal stuff made by Locktite. It goes onthe back of the disc brake pads when you slap them on the calipers. This absobrbs the vibrations that make this annoying squeal when braking.

Generally speaking, cars with more brakes or braking surface than necessary have this problem. Since you rarely slam on the brakes but apply just enough pressure to enact a gradual stop, the brakes pads (and sometimes shoes) have the ability to vibrate and produce that squeal. You'll notice on hard stops or fast stops you don't hear any squeal.

Always nice to have more brake than needed.

Good Luck!

I had this promblem last week and i couldn't understand why they were so loud although they are new brakes....come to find out they were dirtey, i had driven over freshly laid gravel and it got all stuck up in my brakes and between the dust and dirt and gravel it makes the brakes loud although they are new, you can either keep driving it till it gets the kinks out or i went to a place like firestone and for $25 they cleaned my brakes and now they don't make a sound...

I think you are talking when you brake it gives a high pitch? This could be dirt between the brake pad or pad is so think metal is grinding. The former is a bit easier to fix. Either way take it to the mechanic. Are you a mechanic type?
