because when voldemort came to kill him, his mother told voldemort to kill her instead, and so he was shielded by his mothers love, which is why voldemort couldnt touch him until he took some of harrys blood.

I've actually thought about this a lot and have come to the conclusion that Harry didn't die because Voldemort had to be the one to kill him in order for the piece of Voldemort's soul inside of Harry to be destroyed. Dumbledore specifically stated that Voldemort had to be the one to kill Harry (in fact, Voldemort said this as well, but for different reasons!) and that Harry had to die willingly without a fight. The scar is the mark of and is the piece of Voldemort's soul, which is why when Harry is close to Voldemort or feels his emotions only his scar burns, not all of him. This is because the piece of the soul in the scar wants to reconnect with Voldemort. The basilisk also wouldn't have destroyed the horcrux (Harry is not a horcrux; technically, his scar is) because he was not stabbed in the head. The basilisk venom would have destroyed Harry (and eventually the horcrux once the venom reached the scar) if Fawkes had not healed Harry's arm first. So in conclusion he doesn't die because Fawkes saved him before the venom could reach the real location of the horcrux, the scar.

Yea...dont think that you have read all the books, or even seen any of the movies. But here it is, when Voldemort was trying to kill Harry, his mom shielded him and gave up her life for him, because he told her that if she moved she would live. She didnt. So she gave up her life and shielded him so that the Avada Kevadra bounced off which made him the other Horcrux. And that love put the shield over the Dursleys which made him safe as long as he went back until he was 17.

Well, unless you've read into the later books - what happens is that in the process of trying to kill Harry, Voldemort accidently transfers some of his powers into Harry; ultimately establishing him (Harry) as the 7th Horcrux. Hope I didn't ruin the story for you!!!

Harry's mother, Lily, sacrificed herself to try to protect him. Her loving sacrifice did indeed put a protection on Harry. So, when Voldemort tried to kill him, the spell was reflected back by this protection. It's easy to miss if you read the books quickly.

It's extremely obvious if you've read the books or seen the movies. It is explained many times...
But basically, his mother sacrificed her own life to save Harry by throwing herself in front of him when voldemort shot a curse, then when he tried to shoot another one at Harry it bounced back because he was magically protected by his mothers love.

Because when Harry's mother dies him her love made a sheild that made it imposible for Voldemort to hurt him badly. It could only protect him for a certain amount of time though

Due to the power of love that his mother had for him. Voldemort didn't have love growing up, because his mother died when she gave birth to him, and his father abandoned Merope when he found out she was pregnant.

his mothers spell...in the 7th it clearly states that the charm protecting harry would wear off once he turned 17 not i really dont get it but usually his mothers love would have been with him eternally and thats why i think he survived that second time...killing the horocrux

His mother's love prevented the curse from harming him. She gave up her life for him. The power of love conquers all I guess.
