Stocks go up and down based on how people forsee the future profit for the company.
If more people are trying to buy the stock than sell it the price will go up.

Learn more about the stock market before trying to invest in it.

You could raise a stock price is for example you were a high level executive of a mining company and then falsely suggested that there were HUGE gold deposits..like Billions of dollars worth. If you had a company where the stock prices where like 5 cents and you kept repeating this lie over and over and over again, you could swindle investors into buying more and more at higher and higher prices, until the stock price reaches about 150 dollars!! Then you could admit that there was no gold, it was all a hoax.


Think this is an imaginary scenario? It isnt. A company called BRE-x did this about 10 years ago. The chief geologist was just in the news recently. Of course, he cashed in close to 100 million dollars worth of the shares before everything collapsed.
Amazingly enough, he was acquitted of any wrongdoing.
The stock prices really did go from 5 cents to 150 dollars.

As a general Joe schmo, you can't influence stock prices upwards. You could however influence them downwards..just short everything and then go an try to assassinate someone of importance.

Or if you manage the company you could make more profits so it is worth more.
