Britain has never been wealthier from what I have read.The taxation in Britain has never been worse either.Poverty is not what I think of when I think of Britain.
I am going with unprecedented wealth.
PS:The Colonies were quite some time ago and it is silly to have that in theses answers.

The British monarchy has all the wealth that were taken from the colonies.
