Gay marriage is legal in the countries of Belgium, Canada, Netherlands, South Africa, & Spain. Israel recognizes gay marriages performed in other countries. It is legal in the US state of Massachusetts, but the federal government does not recognize these marriages.
Although not marriage, same-sex partnerships are recognized in Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Iceland, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, and the US states of Vermont, Connecticut, & New Jersey with partial recognition in California, Hawaii, Maine, and the District of Columbia. New Hampshire and Oregon will begin recognizing same sex couples in 2008.
