What do you do to whiten football helmets?

My football season starts tommorow and my helemet has been in my attic for almost a year I took it out about a week ago and it is very yellow. please help

I think someone once told me to polish it. Can't quite recall it though. I don't think polishing a football helmet could hurt it.

Uh...Wash it?...More extreme would be to paint it...but since it is likely the property of the school, you might not want to do that unless you ask them first...
