Many straight guys have a highly stereotypical view of the gay male. They think that we all act the same way and that we are all dying to get into their pants. A lot of the "homophobic" attitudes that straight guys share come from a mindset where they take comfort in thinking that they're better than everybody else. People with this mindset are in a dreamworld.

Being a straight guy around a gay guy is kind of like being in the position of the pretty young gal who wants to be nice and polite to all the guys without any of them thinking that she may be leading them on or giving off the impression that she is interested in them in a dating or sexual way. It's a delicate balance that requires a lot of confidence and finesse.
If, on the one hand, she is overly nice to a guy who she has no interest in yet this same guy is interested in her, he will perceive her as being flirtatious and his imagination will run away until it gets the best of him and he feels he must make some sort of move or ask her out. This subsequently puts her in the unenviable position of having to be direct with the guy who is now going to get his feelings hurt and go away grieving that she led him on and is a tease.
On the other hand, if she remains cold and aloof, she is perceived as a snooty witch who thinks she is too good for the likes of him. It's kind of a "catch-22," you're damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Straight men think that just because they wanna jump on everything they are attracted to, that gay men will want to do the same. The thing is, most men who say stupid stuff about getting hit on by a gay guy are guys that I would not even consider it no matter how drunk I was!

Men have a long history of objectifying women for sexual thrill. It's socially acceptable. Look at all the ads out there selling crap cuz there's a half-naked bimbo on a billboard. It must be a frightening concept for a straight guy to feel I might be looking at him the way he looks at chicks. It's fear. That's the phobia in homophobia

we stra8 guys are sometimes homophobic. Somehow its just nasty if the gays are men. Strangly if the girls are hot, then lesbo type activety is fun to watch. At the same time, fat lesbians are gross. My phyc instructor who was a bi female, said its like people are affraid of hieghts are subconciously willing to jump. In that thread, stra8's may be curious from a small level, of what being gay is like.

It's an issue of ego. Men who are not really that secure, and in addition to believing that they are "God's gift to women," they equally fear that every gay man covets them.
Same principle, but in reverse.

I've been asked out by a guy on a number of occasions. I'm not sure why, and every time it baffles me...
