Today it's Hip-Hop, gansta culture, tattoes, information, electronic society - and in 20 years it will be something else. It is often what young people like and protect that their parents won't relate to/understand.
It is inevitable if there is progress, and that is good - if we get too far apart, as in the late 60's and early 70's that is not good. The problem them was the moral decay. while the movements for equal rights were very good.
Young people want to rebel and usually have a mix of good progressive ideals with going too far.
That makes a gap - as parents know from life experience what makes life successful and meaningful and well intentioned young people, armed with good progressive ideas, do not have the same experience = generation gap.

I think that there are generation gaps. I don't know if they are widening or not. But I am not happy with some of the things that are going on with this generation and the next generation.
I think that each generation has a different set of values about such things as marriage - example : today people have a child first ( sometimes don't know who the father is), then they get engaged and then they get married. That is just wrong to me because of the way I was raised. And people like Maury Povich ( not sure of the spelling) are definitely not helping the situation!!!!!!!!!
I think generation gaps will always exist because one generation has a different view of things than the other generation.

I Believe the gap is widening I was born in the 60's,and have kids in there 20's and kids under ten I see there friends of both and the respect or disrespect of there elders and years ago a lot more mothers had lots to do with there kids all day then they do now because of work commitments etc its harder for the parents and harder for the kids,to get to togetherness of years ago the one good thing is that fathers seem to get to have more time with there kids today unlike in the 50's as this wasn't the done thing I think parents try really hard to make there kids really count and that they do their best but with all the technical things, and T.v,computer games etc a lot of kids are bought off with cheap babysitters and never do anything as a family and hence the gap.But its more of a gap of ignorance and not enough hours in the day.

The "Gap" was created by those who do not adapt well to change & is maintained by the same, ergo, an inevitable part of life here...not everyone is a happy camper, right?
The gap will remain as long as there are adults who forgot they were kids and so lack respect for the growing process of new youth, and children who have little respect for the wisdom of their elders with little care for acquiring it...See??? As far as wide or slim...with this scenario, what do YOU think???
It is a challenge to face from both cliffs...with lots to learn in building the bridge. Good Journey, Sweetness!!!

Generation gaps exist because of cohort and period effects. Therefore, yes things will consistantly change and the generation gap will always exist.

Tthere has forever been a generation gap and always will.
It is a natural condition of growing up and 'separating ' from parents.

No, I believe it's just the idea that we're different from our parents that we think there's a gap. In actuallity, at the root of our beliefs and our ideas are very same to our parents. We just like to think we're different even though we aren't.
