The best way to solve this problem is by substitution.

Substitute y = x - 2, into the equation x + 3y = 10
which gives:
x + 3(x - 2) = 10
x + 3x - 6 = 10
Bring like terms together
4x = 16
solve for x
x = 16/ 4 = 4

when x = 4
y = 4 - 2 = 2

Solution is thus x = 4 and y = 2

Simultaneous equations;
Either Solve for x first.
x=10-3y
& then
y= (10 - 3y) -2
y=8-3y
y +3y=8
y=2

now substitute this into second equation

x=(3)(2) -2
x=6-2
x=4

therefore
y=2 and x=4

if you have a ti-83, I would solve the 1st equation for y and then graph them both to find the intersection point.

if you don't, solve by substituting the 2nd equation in for y in the 1st euation like this:

x+3(x-2)=10
x+3x-6=10
4x-6=10
4x=16
x=4

then use the 4 to find the value of y: y=4-2 so y=2

the solution is (4,2)

For this equation, replacing y with x - 2 seems easiest.
x + 3(x-2) = 10
x + 3x - 6 = 10
4x = 16
x = 4
y = 2

we write both as x+3y+10 (1) & x-y=2 (2)

then we elimiate one of the variables by (1)-(2)
then 4y= 8 then y =2
now we subistitute by value of y=2 in any one of them let it (2)
then x -2 =3 then x=4
to make check we sub, in the other by x and y the 4+3*2 =10
then the solution set is{(4,2)}

x+3y=10
y=x-2

x+3(x-2) =10
x + 3x -6 = 10
4x = 10 + 6
4x = 16
x = 4

y = x-2
y = 4-2
y = 2

(4,2)

I am not working it out for you. the following is the steps to solve for 2 simultaneous equations (2 unknowns)

Transpose x to the left side of equation 2 y=x-2

Add the 2 equations

Solve for y

Substitute value for y in either equation and solve for x

Good Luck

The best way to solve this system is through algebra.

y=x-2 then x=y+2
then (y+2)+3y=10
then 4y=8
then y = 2 and x = 4

I hope this helps : )

Put the bottom into the top:

x + 3x - 6 = 10

4x = 16

x= 4.
