....from the next, that there's no doubt what song it is? this, IMHO is a huge reason 'Zep is so great. songs from bands today dont impress me much, cuz the lack of originality makes the entire cd seem like one, long song. any other bands out there have completely different styles...one track from the next?

I don't think any band in history had the diversity that The Beatles had. They took us from slow love songs like "And I Love Her" to political statements like "Taxman" to acid rock like "Magical Mystery Tour" to hard core rock like "Revolution", all in less than eight years.

I love that about them. They spanned SO many styles of music, each one being mastered so beautifully. That is why Jimmy Page is a rock/roll god. Each band member was a true genius of music. No one has ever rocked so hard and yet gelled so perfectly together as a group of musicians. From Dazed and Confused to Down by the Seaside, Achilles Last Stand and beyond. Flawless.

They are rather unique in that regard, but it didn't really become noticeable until the fourth album, Houses of the Holy and Physical Graffitti. They must have been inspired to some degree by the popularity of progressive rock which was extremely popular at the time.

Audioslave, U2, Rob Zombie, Disturbed.......Those are some awesome bands, in my opinion....
