I know people like to get technical, so when I say "in person," that means things you've witnessed first hand, and does not include things you've witnessed on television.

Wow. I've got nothing on you guys. Absolutely nothing. The most dramatic things I've witnessed are put to shame compared to some of these stories. My stories are ones like "I had to go to the hospital because of a fishbone caught in my throat," or "I was being funny and did a spin kick to my cousin's head, and now he has Tourette's... not that the kick had anything to do with it."
A lot of good stuff here. Definitely the most satisfied I've been with a response to any of my questions. Also, I just beat my personal record for stars! Thanks!

Good save, meillee44. That story hits close to home, being a new father.

When I was 13 I was drugged and raped and beaten ... I was conscious enough to watch what was happening but not able to move .... So I was there in person but not really so I think that counts .....
otherwise I watched my father strangle my mother among other things .... I did not have a good childhood.
I also watched my brother wreck his motorcycle and it rip off his leg. It was pretty gross. I had to tell him to lay there and not move while I made friends get an ice chest and put frozen veggies in it. I think I horrified the paramedics by actually picking up a few pieces and handing it to them in an icebox ...
And working in a domestic abuse shelter the things you saw happen were out of this world ...

I actually witnessed my being hit and run by a car driver.
I was walking to my car in a lit, nearly empty parking lot at night. I stopped and turned to face a stranger behind the wheel of a stationary black cadillac about thirty feet away. I caught his eye, and seconds later he gunned the engine and rammed through me. I had just enough time to react and leap, so the car's momentum let me rebound off of the front of the engine hood and fly over the car.

i made a fuel-air bomb by flicking water at a candle.
there was a fireball about 2 foot across.
I bet you didn't know that was possible eh?
Well a nice person in the chemistry section explained to me that what happened is droplets of wax from the candle were carried up by the steam and ignited on the way through the flame towards my living room ceiling. And he said it's a very rare phenomenon!

As a newborn, i grew to become into swinging on the dep. of a tree in front of my domicile. Overhead a small airplane, wings long gone, got here good down and crashed around the line, some homes down. I observed a great sort of black smoke popping out of the lower back end of the airplane (it regarded like a substantial cigar) because it angled down in the direction of the domicile it crashed into. My first 'close to death' adventure. frightening and unhappy.

Watching a friend get shot 6 times in the back as he tried to run for cover. I think the waiting part was the worst, he was still breathing, but the moment the ambulance turned him over to give him oxygen there was blood everywhere. He died right there in the parking lot. What makes it worst was a few days before he was so happy, he was finishing school and he had plans to better his life. It was senseless, and we need to stop this. We need to educate our society, teach them there is a better way to deal with anger or what ever feelings they harbor inside. I can't bear to see one more family lose a loved one.
R.I.P, we love you always

Outside of my own drama's...
When I was about 19 years old, I was outside with a bunch of people saying good-bye to someone in front of a frat house. As he walked across the street a car came zooming down the street. I thought I saw him fly over the car, but someone else said that he was drug under it. It all happened so fast, and it was awful to see. He died.
Another terrible thing I saw was when I was in TJ and saw the Mexican cops beating a guy in the street with a billy-club. They just kept beating and beating him even though he wasn't fighting back. I was told to ignore it and just keep walking.

I saw a guy get hit by a car once
oh, and I watched a guy get beat up...I was driving through a bad neighborhood and heard these guys confront someone about something he supposedly stole, then they started beating on him. The worst part was some other dude was just passing by and overheard that the guy stole something and he jumped in too. I heard the guy screaming for help and nobody helped him...

My father in the hospital the day before he died...he looked so terrible and so different.
Also, once I was at an amusement park a little bit before the rides opened. They were testing them, and this guy was working at the bottom of a hill on this roller coaster, and a cart hit him. he actually didn't get hurt that bad, but he was hanging on the side of the cart for dear life! It sent me into a shock mode for about 5 minutes. Let's just say it was one of my favorite rides and I didn't ride it that day.

The most dramatic event I was involved in was in korea. We took a direct hit on our bunker, and a peice of steel came through the roof, and cut through my jacket. I was told that a fraction of an inch closer I would have been killed. Since then, ive been happy for every day.
