Just to correct the previous person. The German soldiers, and the German people, DID know that the camps were there.

As did the British government, quite some time before the end of the war. They could have bombed the camps but chose not to.

As a teenager and young man, Pope Benedict XVI was drafted into the Hitler Youth and the Nazi German Army just like every other non-Jewish German male. He was not given a choice.

The Pope is not and never has been a Nazi. He unfortunately was born and grew up in a country ruled by the Nazi party.

Every draftee into the Hitler Youth and the Nazi German Army was not a Nazi.

Thank God that you and I live in a very different world that the Pope did in 1930s and 1940s Germany. Or do we?

With love in Christ.

No. He did belong to a Nazi youth organization. He never had anything to do with Jews or camps. There was universal and mandatory service in Nazi programs and the army. He was not a war criminal, and if he served in the German Army, he was not responsible for the death camps. Most ordinary soldiers had no nazi ties, and most were far from Germany and had no idea the camps were there.
