Their personality. It either adds to or detracts from a person's beauty. An ugly personality makes an ugly person. A beautiful personality makes a beautiful person. Beauty does come from within. It's not all about appearances. Appearances can be deceiving.

For me, it's their personality and how they act. One can be physically "pretty", but if s/he does things like have poor table manners, swears, scratches herself in inappropriate places and times, belches or sneezes without even saying excuse me, tells an off-color joke at a poor time, and sometimes, depending on the situation especially, is not well-spoken or even comes across as marginally intelligent. I've dated "good looking" men, but they have had traits, such as what I mentioned that just turned me off.

Sure, the externals have something to do with it, how one looks (unkempt clothes, hair, etc.) and dresses is a reflection of one's personality. Even "little" things like reeking of cigarette smoke is bothersome to me. (That's one of the reasons why I don't like to stand or sit next to my husband's sister and my husband's brother's wife. They both reek with smoke. I think it's permanantly absorbed into their skin.)

About a month ago, I was chatting with my mother-in-law and my husband's aunt. They were saying that my husband's sister's boyfriend (the aforementioned sister) was having difficulty getting a job. They both made comments to the effect of that it might be his physical appearance. He doesn't dress well (jeans and a T-shirt or sweats) has poorly kept teeth, and also reeks of smoke (he also smokes). It's rather sad. When I dress casually, I'm more dressed up than them. When I leave the house, even for the grocery store, I am in real clothes (button downs or nice dress-casual Ts, jeans, khakis, or khaki shorts, loafers or sneakers and my hair is obviously brushed), not sweats or pajama pants with a Tshirt or sweatshirt, like they often do.

Anyway, I think I'm digressing.

I'm not perfect. However, I try and do my best not to offend others. I was raised in a small, rural area with two professional parents who were known in the community. They taught me that external appearances, manners, how one carries himself, etc. is very important as it reflects the inner person. Being human, though, I fail. I don't expect to please all of the people all of the time. I just do the best I can within my power.

big pores, uneven skin, yellow teeth, unkempt eyebrows (trust me if you have great, groomed eyebrows they make your face look sooo clean cut and attractive), etc.
