see the Jihadists' fight as being anti-West or anti-US or even anti-Christian? There are just as many acts of jihadist terrorism against people and countries that have nothing to do with the US and the West as there are against the US and the West. They're beheading Buddhists all over Southeast Asia, for example.

Jihad isn't a war against the West - it's a war against non-Muslim civilization.

America isn't perfect, American policies aren't perfect, American leaders aren't perfect - - - but they didn't create Jihad and they're not the sole target of Jihad.

Islam is a problem for anybody and everybody that is not Muslim.

While we view the problem through a uniquely American perspective, you have a minor point:
America is only a 300 million person contingent in the War of Islamic Fundamentalism vs. The World.
But if The World loses, so do we!

The jihadists, Al Queda in particular, have the following mission statement:

Conquer Rome, Conquer Britain, wipe Zion from the map, Destroy the United States.
In some regions of the Islamic world, all prayers end with this statement: "Death to America"

You seem to be suggesting that concern over an ideology committed to our destruction is some form of blind patriotism.

The morphing of the word jihad and it's concept as a tool of Islamic extremists for the destruction of the west is not a product of the American imagination.
It's real and it's demonstrable.

You need to make your peace with that horrible reality and stop trying to rationalize it away or you will be victimized by it.

Al Qaeda’s leaders are organized, committed fanatics. They understand information warfare. They are prepared to fight a multi-generational war.

The synopsis of Al Qaeda’s “Letter of Threat to Americans”:

From Abu ‘Abdullah Al-Kuwaiti outlining the next attack against the Americans, and issuing a statement to the Americans to let them know of their fighters’ readiness to kill hundreds of thousands with their nuclear and biological arsenal. The second letter is dated 10 November 2001 from Abu Yousef Al-Qannas to Khallad Al-Kuwaiti informing him that he is moving north by orders of the Sheikh (Osama bin Laden), and that he will join him in a week’s time.

Cliches get to be cliches because they are true and or they apply.
'Get your head out of the sand' is one that applies here.

Nationalistic Centricism is exactly why our world is so screwed up right now....and the Islamic Jihadists found a good button to push on 9/11. It showed us who our REAL friends were. But it's so screwed up now, that many in Europe have already forgotten the Cold War, and exactly who it was that kept Western Europe from being over run by Soviet interests.
Ah well....there's times it seems like we should have left the Nazis in France!

Good Point. Perhaps because one of the selling points of the war is that it IS directed at Americans. It helps to feed nationalistic fervor, when your soldiers are doing the predominent amount of dying, and you request even more money and manpower.

Actually, it's not even a war against non-Muslims.

There are more acts of violence against other Muslims than there are against non-Muslims.
