I've even had people tell me that they were cursed because "the curse" was late, and ask me for a counter spell.
This ain't the movies....it's real life.

For those that wish to know:The usage Magic was given a big push when it was used in the Malleus Maleficarum by Christians. Did they change the spelling from 6 to five letters on purpose is another debate.

For those who weren't around in the Forties and fifties....I'm an elder, and "the curse" was something that happened every 28 days and nobody talked about.

You know, I tried to think back to when I was in that place (I'm a ways further down my own path than 6 months) and I think it's because it's sort of an ephiphany that some people have. You study and learn and listen about how magick is the energy and life of the Universe and how she has a hand in the mundane as well as the miraculous. I think that some people truly have their eyes opened at this revelation.
Unfortuantely I think that there are MORE people who have heard that a revelation like this is possible and they feel as though they want to fit in - so they SEEM as though they are seeing things the same way. It's a desire to fit in, and it's an indication that they aren't destined to walk as far down that parth as some others - at least until they change some fundamental opinions. The people who are upset or complaining that they have not experienced this are likely people who don't have as large a desire to fit in and are impatiently awating the same epiphany - only problem is that they're expecting something that's not actually real.
Have you ever observed large groups of Christian (for example) teenagers at one of those big events. You can see the same kinds of behavior there - the louder they shout the less they tend to actually undersatnd.
And you're right - the media doesn't help us at all. They are also setting up false expectations.

I think it's just unbridled enthusiasm mixed with a bit of ignorance. The craft is as much a lifestyle as a spiritual path, and people tend to initially go overboard. It's like any new endeavor. People tend to totally immerse themselves. In for a penny, in for a pound...

Because this is what they are being taught, right? If you were learning, say, the baking trade, wouldn't it be that you'd be smelling dough everywhere? (Maybe a bad analogy, but you get the idea...)
Some folks are quite impressionable early on, in all learning experiences, especially those that are chosen rather than foisted upon one. I essentially agree with Keltasia...let 'em go and let 'em grow.
Peace.

I dont think this is just the craft, but simple human nature. For example, if someone buys a red car, all of the 'sudden' they start seeing red cars everywhere. Women will tell you that they never saw pregnant women until they were, then 'they are everywhere'. It is what we notice based on what we are focused on.

Because they are only dabbling and not serious about the craft and its practices. They are also the same ones that come onto this message board asking about love spells and ouija boards. HOPEFULLY, they will learn as they mature. You can always tell the newbies by their questions.

I'd say that it's because they're highly impressionable people with very little abitlity to think for themselves. These are the same people who will one day find another religion, and preach it to others as though it were the only acceptable way to live your life.

Magick has always been everywhere and in everything...these people are finally able to see, as their eyes are now open!
