Twelve years old is the age that you can begin working in your family's business. Working the job as hostess all alone could be a bit much. It would really depend upon your organizational ability, since you'd be determining who sits where. You say you'd be "a hostess" which implies there'd be someone there to work beside you. If your restaurant isn't overly busy -- and if it wouldn't interfere with your studies -- I think you could do something part-time for your family. I live in the South, and sometimes I've seen young girls working as hostess, where basically someone else tells them where to take the patrons to be seated. They hand out menus, take drink orders, and find seats for babies or toddlers. I think it could be a great learning experience for you at the very least. At best? It could help you have a deeper understanding of what life/working is all about.
Certainly with your mom behind you, helping you find your way to finally being hostess by yourself later, I think you'd be fine. It sounds like your mom has confidence in your abilities. If your mom thinks you can do it, I say go for it.
But, I want to point out that it could interfere with your studies if you work too many hours. Why don't you try out for the job on the slowest night of the week and see how you like it? Get trained and see how many hours you would still have left to study and still get out and have fun.
You're still growing, still learning, and I'd hate for you to lose out on parts of your teen years that can be very important to your life. Try not to miss out on the things you enjoy doing. Hobbies and hanging out with your friends are just as important as learning the family business. In fact, I think it's more important than working.
If you really want to do it, go for it. You really have nothing to lose as long as you leave time for yourself to still be a kid. Just be aware of how much time you need to grow up in a healthy way. I think if you can balance work, school and free time in a healthy way that it can be very good for you later on when you are older and likely working your way through college.
Just do the best you can to still take out time to be a kid, OK?

I do not think so. You need to be a child first. You are twelve and anything you need your parents will take care of. Part of the problem with kids today is that they want to grow up too fast. Maybe you could find something else at the restaurant to do to help out and then you can earn some money and still be a kid.

Yes. As long as your parents are ok with it. I started working in my mom's gift shop when I was in 6th grade. I interacted with customers, ran the cash register, did inventory, etc. You should also make sure it doesn't interfere with school or affect your grades. Good Luck...it could be some really good experience for a young person!

Well it depends on your maturity level if you are very matue then yes go for it. If your parnets think you can then there you go you have your first job. All you just have to do is ask your father and if it is okay with him then you should be happy and you got a job. I really do like the way you are thinking positive aboout your life other rhan some other girls your age.

You're not of legal age to work yet. It probably wouldn't be a good idea, your dad could get in trouble for employing a minor. If you need money, think about a garage sale, or babysitting. Babysitting pays well, and it's a lot of fun to do.

Honestly, I think 12 is a little young to be interacting with customers. Even if you'd do a great job, I still think it's a little weird. I think you'd be better off with a job that's behind the scenes.

It depends. If the restaurant is of high class, it may not be suitable. If its just a casual restuant, sure. Just wear dress clothing, yes mama, yes sir. ect. If your given the chance to show you can, I don't see why not.

why don't you try baby-sitting? when I was 12, I would watch the neighbors kids for a few hours while they went to the store or something. I would charge ten dollars an hour.
