ok here is something to ease your conscience a bit! I own my own cleaning company, I spend hours cleaning and inspecting cleaning results of my staff at various different clients houses. Then I get home sometimes after 12 hours work and I look at my dishes in sink or my daughters toys on floor and I think "sod it" then I feel like a hypocrite going out to promote my cleaning company lol ! However I have the same problem as many of my clients and by the sounds of it yourself, I lead a busy hectic life and I've got kids messing my house up after me! So this is my system, for one hour every day I fly round my own house I do the essential things like make beds or change bedding, load/unload any washing from machine, clean up kitchen surfaces and vacuum either upstairs or downstairs on alternate days. Then I go out and get on with my life, I deep clean my bathroom every week and disinfect loo(squirt toilet duck down it)nightly and load dishwasher every evening and unload every morning.Things like kids toys and clutter are easily solved, don't worry about these things as "urgent" it is hygiene such as clean surfaces and floors which are most important. I would much rather have a untidy but clean house rather than a tidy house which is unclean.
Don't feel you have to keep up with your next door neighbour, she must be a bit neurotic if she is really up at 5.30 cleaning!
The routine which I mentioned above is ideal for busy people and should take only an hour or less if you keep on top of it every day.
Check out this website www.flylady.com its very popular in US for ladies wanting routine and cleaning tips.It is a bit patronizing and over top in parts but in amongst that are some good tips.
Don't feel guilty life is too short for cleaning, thats why I run my business domestic goddesses to let people enjoy their lives and forget about housework!

Why spend 1 hour in every room, Why not spent only 15 min´s. And why worry what other people think. If you are happy with the way you live then it should´t bother you one bit. This is how I do most of my housework, I pick one room to clean or a thing to do , I set my alarm clock to go off in 15 min´s time. I see how much I can achieve in this short amount of time, you would be surprised, I never waste time taking thing´s back to their rightful places , until I have finished what I am doing. Once the alarm sounds , I stop and have a rest, I put my feet up, watch a bit of TV, read a magazine or come here and answer a few Q, But if I think I would rather carry on i do the same again 15 min´s more here and there . It works for me , If you decide to try with 15 min´s . Just remember no matter how little cleaning you do always reward yourself.

I am a slob myself. I live in a small place with just too much stuff. Then my daughter moves her clothes in. She lives with friends because I only have room for my twin bed, which also serves as a couch. I clean my dishes when I run out. I have 4 small plates and lots of tea mugs. I, or whoever I can pay or coerce, into doing my dishes once a week. I will go hungry rather than do dishes. I do laundry three or four times a week. And that's just me. If she likes cleaning so much, just hand her the vacuum, and tell her have at it or shut up. Life is too short to spend all of it cleaning. I get no joy in a clean house, but I do in all the other things I do. Relax, and ignore her, feel sorry for her, she obviously has no life.

I used to be really really messy but always used to say I was clean although, it's difficult to be clean in a messy house. I keep things tidy and clean now and it feels so much better - today a friend came around unannounced and for the first time in years, I wasn't embarrassed!. I work full time and run my own business and I was finding it impossible to keep a clean head in a mess. I am not a clean freak but life is easier when things have a home and the place is tidy and clean!

All this over cleaning doesn't help anyone its thought to be the cause of ashma and possibily allergies which are the result of an over active immune system. Of course you want to clean to aviod magets/flies and food posion you just need a happy medium i think you prob have the right idea but i would still consider that a bit more than needed but one hour a day isn't too much i guess if you don't have much else to do.

A good clean once a week and that's me done.
I can look at piles of clutter for days and get really annoyed by them, only to find when I do get round to clearing up it never takes half as long as I expected it to!
I also tend to get really annoyed with other people's clutter, but not my own, which is a bit hypocritical!!

I can't stand a messy house, so yes I clean alot as I have a 14 month old toddler. I also hate the idea of a dirty germy kitchen & bathroom so I make sure they are clean.... I wouldn't say i'm a clean freak, but I get alot of visitors & I'd feel ashamed if my house was messy!

Hi,
The older I get the more cleaning I seem to be doing. I have 2 small kiddies and like everything to be clean but not STERILE.
There is more interesting things to do than clean, so I do my jobs in the morning and then enjoy the rest of the day.

Your house will be a much healthier place to live than hers. All the chemicals from constant cleaning and disinfecting are bad for you and you need a bit of dirt to develop a healthy immune system and will be less likely to develop allergies.
I have a friend who used to follow my kids around with a cloth - it must be a very stressful way of living.
