I live in a house that was built in 1914 and we have a freestanding heater that we use to heat the main part of the house.
We also have a fireplace that we use - not really to heat the house - but it helps to a degree.
Our house sits on pier and beam ( it is like having round posts and then having 2 by 20 sitting on to of the piers) So I have never had problems with our pipes. Also the foundation that the house sits on is 8 inches thick. So I feel like all of this is a pretty good insulator.
Hope this answers your question.

if you have exposed pipes under the mobile home and they have heat tape on them it should be ok, and make sure when it is that cold to leave the water running, the size of the stream should be as thick as a pencil. you can buy portable heaters, but just be wary when using them, they are dangerous. I lived in a mh in the fl. keys and it had no heater, as it rarely gets cold enough to bother with one. BUT one year had a freeze for a week, very rare. I almost burnt the place down with a portable heater. I used my gas oven too, had it on with the door open but this is extremely dangerous I found out. just make sure any portable heater is plugged in to a good outlet with grounding and that it isn't remotely close to anything ( can cause a fire). my problem was that it was plugged into a bad outlet and it burned the outlet out, almost started a fire in the wall.

do have the space for a pellet stove? The initial start up cost is a bit but your heating bill will be extremely small!! Look into that option. oh and to keep the place cool without ac...during the day...close the shades...that will prevent the heat of the sun getting in. Plastic over the windows works both ways to help keep heat in during the winter and heat out during the summer.

Ahhhhhhh mobile home.......... well then you sure don't want a wood burning stove. You could use heat strips throughout the house. Can your pipes freeze? It all depends on how cold it gets and how well insulated your pipes are.
