imagine myself as someone else (ex. picturing myself as someone with different looks, clothes, etc., without actually changing my looks or clothes? I would like to actually feel like I'm the person I'm picturing myself as. I do not wish to change, but would just like to pretend effectively.

Its a matter of practice. Picture even the smallest details very clearly and specifically - over time, it will become easier.
Now my question to you is - why do you want to imagine you are someone else?

When my daughter performed solos in choir, she was stiff, her voice was soft and she didn't seem to know what to do with her hands & feet.

So I told her to pretend she was a star. She was a professional performer, confident, chin up, and she was having fun. Get the audience to have fun, too.

So the answer to your question is drama. And if you can't do that on your own effectively, take drama classes.

This is a good question, very interesting premise.

You kinda just have to zone out and focus really hard on the vision you wish to mentally acheive.
