well, because it is a laptop, one thing you need to be wary about is the "Shared Memory"or "Hyper Memory" Or something like that. it usually say something like this "VGA xxxxx 512mb shared". if you spot something like this. do not buy. it means that the VGA have 512mb Only if you cut some RAM and distributed it. for example :

1 Gb RAM with 128Mb VGA dedicated Up to 512Mb.

that mean if you want your VGA to be 512, you have to Cut you RAM and add it to VGA, otherwise it will only be 128.
in the end, it will be something like this :

640 Mb RAM (you transfer 384Mb to VGA) with 512Mb VGA.

In the end, it done nothing. VGA and RAM is working together very closely. you cannot got a good frame rate with one and not without the other. so look for the one without share memory

another thing, I don't think macbook is well suited for playing games....even if you can use windows on apple...well, it's just not comfortable IMHO

Manufacturers aside the 8600 GT is way better. The reason is that the 8600 GS cannot put to use all of that 511 memory so it doesn't matter which one has more memory. The backup in terms of speed in the GS is the streams processors of which the GS has 16 and the GT has 32. For that reason the GT is not slowed down by the limited stream processors but the next weakest link (the bus interface that only has 128 bits and this is the same for the GS). Go for the GT the speed difference I've heard is substantial.

Since you asked for gaming, then I agree with Xynder, Mac it's not quite suit for gaming, though yes it has the capabilities of it. Why don't you try Alienware instead?
