I'd leave a note with the direction I was traveling in so anyone finding the car would know which way to look for me.

If I had a map I would work out the nearest village and head that way else if I hadn't seen a village for over 30miles I would continue to travel in the way I was going.

Never walk during the middle of the day in a desert. Dusk and dawn and the best times to walk. Try and find shade during the other times.

I live in an area that is known for some VERY, VERY, VERY BAD DUST STORMS!!!!!!!!!
I am talking about dust that is so bad you LITERALLY CANNOT SEE YOUR HAND AT ARMS LENGTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the safest thing to do would be to pull way, way, way far off the road and stay put with your flashers on.
About 10 years ago there were 2 very, very bad accidents because of the dust storms. In one accident, 3 sisters died after being hit by a truck that collects money from banks, - like a Brinks truck. The father was in the hospital for several months and they did not have the little girls funerals until the father was well enough to attend the funerals.
In another accident, a brother and sister died because of a sever dust storm.

Factors:
Is it night or day?
Is there a town nearby -5 miles
Is it in the desert ?

Me... I would walk if daylight after I have waited about an hour or so for someone to come by.

If it is the desert .. I'd stay put and run my airconditioner as needed -if I can.

Night time? I'd stay put with the doors and windows locked!!!!!!!!!!! and I'd pray a lot that someone would come .

I would stay there and wait for help. Eventually a police car will show up. Walking would be dangerous.
