If you want to pay more than what the laptop is actually worth, get a DELL. If you want a laptop that has been built with obsolete parts, get a DELL and if you want a laptop that has onboard graphics and onboards sound, get a DELL. Dell use inferior, obsolete parts and don't use graphic / sound cards. Therefore the parts are dirt cheap and can be bought for peanuts at any computer fair. By using cheap obsolete parts, DELL can then sell the product cheap but you will pay over double what it would cost to get somebody to build one of the same spec, with the same hardware. You are better off saving that little bit extra and getting a Sony, Fujitsu etc. as although they appear more expensive, they aren't. They are likely to have the latest hardware installed and to a greater spec than a DELL. The least they will have is a dedicated graphics card, a more up to date and faster processor and a bigger and better Hard Drive, more and better memory etc. etc. and all parts will be branded where DELL use only "generic" parts. Getting a typically expensive laptop will most likely be cheap, getting a cheap DELL will end up costing you.

Dell makes the worst computers ever. If you're looking for a high quality laptop, you should get a Toshiba Satellite M65-S9092.

Truthfully Dell aren't that great there are many complains about Dell Systems and the few experiences I've had with them was terrible. I would recommend the Macbook which is about $1,000 but it's worth it.

Yes they're fine. It sounds like you're talking about the Inspiron. Nice choice =) You might also look into HP or Toshiba. Basically as long as you don't buy a Mac, you made a great choice :]
