A wall flower is someone who for example sits in the very back of class, says nothing, and like a flower, just absorbs everything that goes on without giving any input or participation.

The opposite of "life of the party". Usually someone very plain and shy that others do not notice. In the old days girls sat in chairs along the wall until a man asked her to dance. The ones that did not get asked were said to blend in with the flowers on the wall paper, hence "wall flower"
