some one claims to have their brakes gone out, would this possibly be the calipers? how to you pinpoint it?

well, i dont mess with brakes too often. but i know there is a way to pinpoint it. i'll ask my father.

Blown brake line?
Blown wheel cylinder cup?
Blown caliper seal?
Blown master cylinder seal?
Out of brake fluid?
Air in the system?
Bad bleeder valve?

It could be a number of other things............

No brakes at all, maybe have air in the lines, or broke one of the lines, caliber or worse. I'd probably be getting towed to the garage.
Brakes work but sound horrible, assuming disc brakes. One of the pads went, easy home repair job.
I'm just a home mechanic, not pro advice! :)
