I'm just curious, my mom did Avon sales when I was younger and lost a lot of money. I know one woman who sells Premeir designs and makes decent money, anyone else? If so what sales do you do? (What company) and are there specific benefits or what is it like?

I started my Mary Kay business 3 years ago I wasn't really interested in sale Love the product and wanted the discount I was not the sales type and didn't think I would do more then that. I was surprised at what I found. I was able to quit my full time job to be home with my children. I Love what I do. It is a fun way to make money while being your own boss means freedom it also means disciple you need to treat it like a business if you want to be successful. I like that i can decide if and when to promote myself and I love the friendships I have made. I also love the reorder business when I was pregnant I didn't work much but reodrers kept coming in. I would be happy to answer any specific questions if you need another point of view I remember asking these same questions when I was deciding too.

My wife has done Premier and Mary Kay. The only way to succeed is to get others in under you. She does not have the personality to go trolling for women at the mall, so she has not been able to see much success there. Her upline actually hangs out at the mall once a week and just talks to women and tells them they would be good at Mary Kay. It works, but you get lots of rejection.

One other warning is not to go crazy with inventory. You want to have everything in stock, so you can fill orders instantly. But it cost you money. Instead, get with a couple of other MAry Kay women and try to swap products when needed. Try to coordinate so that the three of you have pretty much everything in stock.

Finally, put yourself out there. Leave catalogs sitting in the waiting room at the doctor, dentist, etc. Carry cards with you everywhere. Put a link in your email signature and always use it (even when not emailing about MK). Make sure your cellphone greeting mentions that they have called Jane Doe, independent beuty consultant for MAry Kay.

Etc.

You can make money at it, but it is rare theat you can earn a full time salary. Go into it hoping to earn enough to make your car payment, or some similar goal and you might do well.

Avon was the last mlm I tried and lost a lot of time and money too. I finally found out that I don't have to stock inventory anymore to earn a check from a company. I will never stock, sell, or deliver, EVER again. Jennifer

First: How big is your "network" -- that's the key. If you can count on a big, extended family and dozens, preferably hundreds, of friends, then you can make a go of it.

Second: How much do you enjoy constantly meeting new people and shrugging off rejection?

If your answer is "yes" to both, go for it. People buy this stuff less for the product than for the personal relationship. But be prepared to make your job your life.

Like any door to door thing, you need a hook to push your wares and make it in the business. It is as cuthroat as any other business too! Be prepared to not do good for a long time while you learn the ins and outs. Alot of people take members and keep them after you give up too. Be prepared for it all.
