Do finger sandwiches. They are dainty and fun. Do three different kinds (ham and cheese; egg salad; tuna; cucumber; turkey and Swiss; etc.) In the deli section at most grocery stores you can buy potato salads, macaroni salad, tossed salads, etc. Get a few of those. Veggie trays and chips and dip are always good. A yummy cheese ball and crackers are good too. - Also, since it is later in the day you could even go with a bunch of appetizers like egg rolls, chicken wings, shishkabobs, and heartier food, depending on your crowd. Either way, the focus will be on your sis-in-law - not the food. As long as there is a lot of food and variety people will find something they like.

I think whats appropriate for that time of the day would be sandwiches cut-up without the crust, its more dainty that way or crossiant sandwiches. Fresh fruit and fresh vegetables. Or maybe instead of sandwiches, a quiche would be good. Nothing real heavy, keep it light because you'll probably have cake too, right? And in the middle of the day, people don't expect to have a lot to eat any way. Another idea is spinach dip and the bread they use for it.

Chocolate covered strawberrys and fruit trays are always a hit, and also have a girly feel. Petit Fours (mini cake squares), Ham delight sandwiches ( ham, dijon mustand, and mozzerella cheese, baked on dinner rolls, in oven long enough to brown), a bowl of mints, bowl of peanuts, maybe a cheese and cracker tray, meatballs (crockpot with brown gravy mix, ranch dressing mix, and sour cream), cocktail weenies (in jelly and bbq sauce, crockpot until done all the way through). And of course the punch. This should be enough. People won't eat too much since thye eill be leaving around dinner time. Have fun! And congrats!

no no, you dont need full entrees, at my baby shower we had some yummy foods, We had little subs, fruit, chips, my cousin made these little fruit things, You take pillsbury cookie dough, buy the tiny muffin trays, cook them, when they come out, push the center down so you can fill them with cream cheese frosting, and then put little fuit peices like strawberry peices and blueberries on time, They are sooo good. But you dont have to have like subs, you can do a whole bunch of finger foods like fruit, veggies and snacksl

i had the following and it was great:
my grandma's potato salad: i was really craving it!
fresh fruit and veggies with dip. have ranch and chocolate sauce.
cheese cubes-have a variety of flavors.
cheese ball and crackers.
finger sandwiches-try cucumber and cream cheese or little turkey sandwiches.
my mom brought a tray of mini hoagies-they were a big hit.
assorted candies and nuts.
pretzels.
tiny cakes-you can buy pretty ones in the color of your choice. think blue or pink, for the sex.
and of course, the big pretty cake for mom.
i just asked my mom for stuff that i loved and wanted to share. ask the mom-to-be what she craves.

Do like a tea party setting: tea and cucumber sandwiches, salad (Asian salad is good), fresh fruit is nice such as: strawberries, melon etc... OR Serve chips and dip, veggie and fruit platters, stuffer mushrooms whatever. If it were me, i would do what my family likes, chips and salsa, veggie and fruit platters, taquitos, enchiladas, rice, beans, salad cookies, cake. I'm mexican we eat all the time, my family would think i'm rude to serve just sandwiches and stuff. But do what you want its your party if you want it girlie do crackers with spread, breads and cheese, fruit and cumcumber sandwiches and cookies with tea punch and coffee

Two packages of Little Smokies (Sausage). Add a bottle of Bar-B-Q Sauce, some hot sauce, worchestire sauce and bake for one hour on 350. Serve with decorator toothpicks! Everyone loves them!

Here's one finger food or snack idea
You can make rice krispie treats and color them pink or blue (add the color to the melted marshmallows before adding the krispies). And then cut them into bite size pieces or press them into baby themed cookie cutters.
fun, tasty, easy to make, low cost ingredients, and you can make them a few days ahead of time
