I am by no means being hateful.....I just don't understand the backwards practice of forcing the host country to learn the incoming immigrant's native language. If I was to move to Mexico or some other Spanish speaking country.....I'd be forced to learn that language just for survival.

I am hispanic american and don't know why white americans don't stop this. Even people coming to Ellis Island had to aclimate to our society. We let these hispanic communities live in their own bubbles. We are giving away our nation heck here in Texas our voting cards are in english and spanish.

Food for thought...........
Do you honestly think we can support the hispanic population of every hispanic country in the USA. Stop this!!!!!

Yes, I think learning a second language is important anyway. Most other countries make their citizens learn a second language why not Americans? Spanish is actually really fun. I can do it and get my point across but I tend to make them laugh when I speak. Most likely because I start the conversation with 'I'm sorry. My Spanish is very bad" in Spanish of course.

These days you can learn how to speak Spanish over the internet. Check out this online course, it's voted as the best Spanish online course of all time: http://www.rocketlearner.com/spanish The course is very easy to follow, I was able to learn Spanish in just 3 months.

I live in New York City, I wanted to go to a Spanish language teacher but that would have cost me over $800 per month. Good thing with this internet, $800 it's a lot of money for me.

We as Americans are not being forced to learn Spanish at all. But as our country continues to become a melting pot it is not unlikely that learning a second language will be helpful to us all. As for Hispanics not learning English that is a falsehood, if your child goes to a public school in the US they will learn English. I think a better question is... why are people so afraid of having a second language? Being bilingual in America is very beneficial.

I've never heard of anyone being forced to learn spanish.

Many schools require students to take a foreign language of some kind, but that's a perfectly reasonable requirement.

They kids that go to public school DO learn the english laungage. Kids that are native, depending on the course of study, have to learn a forign laugnage, not nessary Spanish. The adults do not have to learn either. Noone is being forced to learn either, but I do agree that if you come here to live, learn the native language. If we went there, we'd need to learn spanish, or wherever.

I don't believe for one moment that Americans are being 'forced' to learn Spanish.

While we may not have English as our "official" language, it HAS been the de-facto standard in this country since it's inception, and is universally viewed as the language of business.

I think its mostly cuz these people outline themselves as minority even though others dont look at them that way, and "being a minority" they try to get things done their way. I maybe completely wrong but thats just how I perceive this, and with no disrespect to anybody
