It's good to be smart. But not smart to BRAG or act better than others..but another reason people could look down on people like that is just because they are jealous...

It IS a good thing to be smart. I think the "know-it-all" types are often not smart, but rather knowledgeable. They know (or think they know) facts, and spew them out relentlessly, but have no idea how to incorporate those facts into the big picture. When people look down upon them, it's probably because they come off as braggarts, even though they may not be trying to do so. More often than not, asking intelligent questions is more intriguing than giving a canned answer.

I don't think I know it all, I 've just been lucky enough to have a vast variety of experiences and a good education and I share it .

For so many years smart people have been portrayed as geeks and anti-social and dull... when it's not true. Afterall look at Bill Gates, one very smart geek who parlayed that into the internet.

Sometimes I think it's ignorance from other people and they're being embarassed that they don't know things they should know.

Just my take anyway for what it's worth.

There's a difference between being smart and helpful, and being condescending and a know-it-all. There are ways to be appreciated for your intelligence without making other people feel insignificant or stupid.

Some people are insecure and there's nothing you can do or say that they won't take offense at. (*shrug*). However, much too often, really smart people have very bad social skills, and end up looking like total twits.

While it's good to be "smart" many know-it-alls don't necessarily know what the hell they're talking about and tend to force their knowledge down your throat. It's called unsolicited advice and it's often not appreciated.

A perfect example of a know-it-all - none other than the smarmy and acid tongued Dennis Miller. He may be smart but know one cares that he knows it all (unless you share his political views) because he's so goddamn annoying.

There's a dfference between smart people and know-it-alls. Know--it-alls are not as smart as they think they are because the smart thing to do is not force your bullshhh on everyone and act like you're better.

There's nothing wrong with being smart but most of the "know it all" types don't respect other people's opinions and they think they know everything which they don't.

It is a good thing to be smart, but not annoying with it.

What irritates me about a know-it-all, is that they don't, and when you try to tell them differently, they get all defensive and try to ram their opinion down your throat. Otherwise, being smart is wonderful thing.
