loud rushing water noise at odd times from wall back of toilet.?

Question

sounds somewhat like toilet filling up loudly. toilet not being used or flushed at time of noise. water in tank stays at normal level. please help.

As already suggested, are you in an apartment with a common wall to the one next door....if so, then...you need to contact your neighbor and work it out so you both only flush your toilets and use your showers at the same time.
This will immediately remedy the noise problem.

If you do not live in a multi-family dwelling, flush the toilet and while the tank is filling up, add a couple cups of coffee (liquid only, no grounds). watch the bowl for a couple hours. If the water in the bowl changes color, your flapper in the tank is leaking. When enough water leaks into the bowl, the toilet adds water just as if it was flushed. Replace the flapper.

sounds like ur flapper is going bad.....it will let water out of ur tank until it hits a certain level then it will refill the tank so when u look the tank is full......replace the flapper with one of the same kind.....turn the water to the toilet off then take the flapper off...it should be rubber and have 2 ears and they will be on to stubs on ur overflow tube....that round tube in the middle....take that to ur local hardware or parts store and match it up then go home and oput that back on.......9 out of 10 times thats all thats wrong and u can do it urself in less than 10 mins

Change out the innards.. you can get a kit at Lowe's, or Ace.. or any hardware department..Instructions are simple.. just make sure you have a bucket, towels and just follow the directions even I was able to change out the innards with a wrench and screwdriver..
.. its a shwooshing noise and it just happens at different intervals right?
