I am not aware of a single true case of spirits communicating through an answering machine, but they can indeed communicate other ways. They usually choose to do so by trying to reach out to a loved one in a way that only they will understand. For example, a favorite scent, a flower, perhaps. If that doesn't work, they reach for those who can hear them and communicate what they need to their loved ones through an intermediary. It does happen in a non-John Edwards this is TV on demand- sort of way.

I have. It sounds totally fake but it was years ago on my families vaccation in the south, we were visiting an old family house that no one has lived in since the early 1900's. The house was set out in the middle of the woods, my family owns the whole property but nobody takes care of the house or the cemetary that's near it. It was raining and my sister and I were upstairs in this house checking htings out (not a great idea since the house was falling appart) but I looked out the window and there was a guy standing just at the line of trees from the second story window and when I turned to say something to my sister about him and looked back it he was gone. Eventually I told one of my great-uncles about it and he was surpised and went into some crappy (and this is the part that sound REEEEALLY fake but i swear it's true..or so he told me) story about how one of the sons in the house had gone off the fight in the civil war and got shot pretty early on and his sister had sworn to see him. But it was still weird. Weird things always happen to my sister and I if we're together in places like that... Weirder then that...and this sounds even more stupid...and you'll probably disrard EVERYTHING I say after you read this...but I swear I have a cat haunting my house, usually I feel him. Late at night I'll be lying in bed and I'll feel it jump up on the bed and walk up to about my hip level and stop, the first time it happened I sat dead up right and flipped on the light, it wasn't my cat since at the time I slept with the door open but it happens about once every couple of weeks. I've seen him once or twice. the first time I was cooking and I looked over into the hallway and saw a long haired white cat walking into my dining room and I thought you know a stray cat had gotten in since my cat is short haired gray thing so I walked into to the living room and it wasn't in there, there's no where for anything ot hide in there. So...yeah. Weird stuff.

i really think so...
my grandfather used to call and when he got the answering machine he would just hang up, but after it had already started recording, so we would always know it was him by the background noise of his dog, and his police scanner...
well, like a day or two after his death we recieved a message that was exactly like the ones he would always leave, but the date and time was past that of his passing...
also, i've had experiences through the radio...
before my grandmother's funeral my mom kept hearing this song in her head, and swore that my grandma wanted her to play it at the funeral. it was an older song that i had almost never heard. you know older, unpopular, etc. and a day after the funeral we heard the song playing on the radio... coincidence? i don't think so.
the same thing happened with my grandfather. my mom kept hearing the song, so she played it at the funeral, and a day later we heard it on the radio. it too was an older not-so-popular song.
i totally believe that spirits can communicate with us through electronic devices, and i think that if you listen, you might just hear what they are trying to say...

Yes, and through t.v's, phones, dreams, and other people, apparations are the most common.

they tend to appear fainly on t.v screens, they can speak through phones, dreams they can come to you in although this is a rare but delightful expriences. Apparations are what people like to call "ghosts" because they are transparent.
