The baby should be fine if you have had chicken pox. If you have had them you will pass off immunity to your baby for about 10 months. The protection does not come from breastmilk, it comes from the nuroushment the placenta gave the baby.

My son had them at 3 months old (a very bad case.) He was fine, and is now immune. Usually babies that get them are not immune if it happens under a year. I never caught them from him! Lucky me. I was breast feeding too.

The question is, will the hospital allow him in there? You had better phone and check.

First of all, if your partner has chickenpox DO NOT go into work. Being around someone with chickenpox can affect your unborn child. Call your partner and see if he will let you work from home and tell him to stay away until he is over it.

no he can't be near you or the baby until the chicken pox are gone. it could make you a carrier and you could give it to the baby.

once the spots are showing they are no longer contaigous. thats why you never know when your going to get it. your contaigous before the spots. i would check with the doctor but if hes not sick along with the pox he should be ok to be in there with you.

if he is not longer contagious they might let him in with you. i would check with the maternity floor and see what there policy is about letting sick people on the floor.

also i don't think you will pass this on to your child unless you have never had it and you get it yourself. then it will pass on to your baby through delivery.

Did you have it as a child? If you did, your new baby should be protected through your breastmilk... i don't believe they will allow him in Labor and delivery though.
