What are some Ritual and magical uses of dirt?

Question

I am looking for any death, lich, ritual uses for dirt, or magical links. Obviously their is a death link to it, this is the angle I am looking to research. Thanks.

Dirt....the earth is a bit of everything there is and was. Just standing on it in bare feet adds power to a spell being worked for rain. Long before the Christians purloined the ritual, people were placing earth upon the dead as sign that they were freely giving back to Gaea the shell that was always hers.
There are still ceremonies where children are covered with mud and dance until the mud dries and cracks away. This reminds them of where their body came from and where it will return.
A tiny bit of Earth mixed into the wax of a natural candle of Bees wax will help immensely when the working is for anything have to do with Nature.

wow first three posters didnt even try to answer your question.

regular earth isnt used in divination of necromancy. However grave dirt may. The magic of divination or communication with spirits is as old as the come. Sorry I dont have an appropriate ritual to site for you......liches are a fabricated/ fictious creations created in literature in the mid 20th century.
Although to be fair there are some stories of people putting thier soul in objects to give them a kind of immortality. look up phalactery on wikipedia.

There are allot of magical uses of dirt it all depends on what you are looking to do. My suggestion is to do some research and be sure what you are trying to do with the dirt? if it is for bad then stop and don't do it. If it is for good like say to help cleanse the earth for planting the go for it. but please research what you want to do because if it is for revenge remember the three fold law.

Dirt can be used to signify Earth as in regards to the elements. As for research into the ritual uses for death, steer clear please. You will release something you won't like. Some secret things are meant to stay that way.
