There are spray cans of strong insecticide that can squirt 10-20 feet like a hose to hit a wasp nest and soak it through with killing chemicals. Any wasps that it hits will also be knocked out of the air immediately. Use it around dusk when all of the wasps are in the nest to get them all.

Your local council will do it for free or for a small charge if it is in an occupied building.
Alternatively you can get wasp killer from any DIY store. It should only cost about £5 to £10
"Insecticide powder to treat wasps can be bought from most DIY stores, garden centres and supermarkets. It is important to always read the label carefully and only use the insecticide for the use that it is intended. Wasps' nests should be treated early or late in the day when wasp activity is at its lowest. Firstly, find the entrance to the nest by observing where the wasps are entering. When you have located the entrance puff the insect power in and around the entrance; returning workers will then carry the insecticide into the nest on their bodies contaminating the nest. Within several days all the wasps should be dead." - Birmimingham City Council

Just got in from doing a huge one - 8 inches long. Garden hose that sprays a jet a good distance. Let it run till the water gets good and cold. Good strong flashlight shining at the nest but set it off to one side. Let er rip with the garden hose from the nest opening upwards. As the cold water hits the wasps they can't fly cause they're wet and cold, so they drop into the grass. Continue with the garden hose till the nest is all in tatters and on the ground. Then in with most any kind of insecticide to finsh em off. About 40-50 wasps in the one I just did. Not a single one got airborne. Good luck.

Get a can of wasp spray that shoots from 10-15 feet away. It's best to hit the nest at night when it's cool, and the insects are comparatively inactive.

Places like Wilkinson's and B&Q etc. sell a wasp killer in a spray can that you can use on the nests to kill them, then you can remove the nest. Read instructions very carefully, and make sure you can get away from the nest quite quickly after spraying, and cover up very well, incase a few come after you.

You can buy stuff that you light and it gives off toxic smoke which will kill the wasps. Avoid sprays as you won't get to spray the wasps before they get to you. Ask at your local garden centre they are sure to have something, just be very careful, a swarm of angry wasps is not something you want to be close to.

That's tough, because beekeepers don't want them, so you can't solicit their help. Wait until night time before doing anything, wear multiple layers of clothing (light colored -- preferrably white). Use a Wasp killer (available at most grocery/convenience stores). That might not be a good one for confined spaces. Smoke will also cause them to leave the vicinity, but that might not be a good idea in an confined space either.
I've also heard of using spray glue to seal up holes in the nest, and that might be your best bet if you're working in an area where you have little ventilation & might be up on a ladder (I'm assuming it's inside, not outside?) Moth balls are rumored to work, but that was a suggestion I read for people who wanted to keep them away from their picnic area & such.
Bees & wasps are attracted to carbon dioxide, so breathe out as little as possible.
