I am talking about Senator Mc carthy.

scared the crap out of them. everyone was afraid of being accused of being a Communist for no good reason. and afraid to criticize McCarthy for the same reason.

John mcarthy ahh wow. Well that would be the famous guy who accused people from all over including the movie industry of being a communist. if you were accused you were blacklisted and couldnt work people who associated with commys or who went a house of a known commy etc were called upon mcarthyism is a term for witch hunt which essentially this was. the play THE CRUCIBLE was a book about the salem witch trials which was based on the mcartchy hearings the hollywood 5 is a good movie on it. research Mcarthyism i hope i helped some

The American public during the Cold War was already anxious about the threat of communism (as posed specifically by the Soviet Union and it's satellite states) and the hearings helped to "fan the flames" (so to speak). McCarthy was later reprimanded by Congress, but impact of the hearings was felt. The frenzy of building bomb shelters, of suspecting neighbors, and of doubting our safety continued.

Also, many in Hollywood who had been "blacklisted" saw their careers in ruins.

The war effort needed all types. After the war, govenment cleaned house using McCarthy, a nasty drunk. But there were real Stalinists in the State department.

Nope cos needless to say he thinks it does - Or slavish obedience besides! As a musician he's solid - yet as a husband - he desires some coaching. and that i think sorry for the youngster in touch in all this mess!
