God promised the Israelis land if they avoided war and strife. Which they have not.
So.
Did God promise any other group of people certain parcels of land?

And if the land the Isralis occupy today is the so-called "promised land", and if it is TRULY theirs, why did God have to PROMISE them land in the first place?
and why did the UN have to become involved?

(and please don't give me some story that God used the UN as a 'vehicle' to impose His Will....please don't....because it just won't fly.)

sorry corag - I usually agree with you about most issues but not this time.It certainly wasn't God who allowed the Europeans to annialate the INdians so that we could 'create' our own borders; and it wasn't God who instructed Bush to invade, occupy and cause hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi deaths either.I've studied Jewish issues and the more I learn, the more I doubt the truth of this "promised land" "chosen people" labeling.
sorry..

This had nothing to do with God.
It's international politics.

Hmmmm...... yeah, it's kind of hard to avoid 'war and strife' when, within 12 hours of declaring independence, your neighbouring Arab states attack you simultaneously.

Great, the way you've neglected to factor that into your 'reasoning'. I use the term 'reasoning' loosely.

I mean, you don't even know the basic facts! BRITAIN held the mandate for Palestine. BRITAIN opted for partition; the Jews got just under half the land, the Muslims just over half.

The Jews accepted the plan. The Arabs rejected it outright and attacked.

And you should also note that Palestine was always the home of the Jews; they have lived there continuously for four thousand years.

The term 'Palestinian' originally referred to the Jews. The 'Palestinian people' as we know them today didn't become a distinct entity until 1969; two decades AFTER Israel was reborn.

As for the Jews being the Chosen People, I don't care if they are or not - that land is still theirs. If any minority on this planet deserves and needs a tiny bit of earth to call home and have self determination, it's the Jewish people.

The Arabs have 22 COUNTRIES.

Jordan is 80 per cent Palestinian.

And you're now denying Israel to the Jews?

Oh come on, get real. Your 'logic' is totally screwed up.

EDIT: to the person who has written 'why do the jews think they're so special' - you'll never hear jews saying this. I know, I grew up in a very jewish area of London and it's ALWAYS non jews who bring this up and try and then attribute the sentiment to jews.

And as it happens, I think the jews ARE rather special - they must be, to have survived all this time when there are idiots like some of these answerers trying to bring them down.

a greater useful question would be, because of the fact the United international locations, in a o.k.-attended vote, created a rustic for the Israelis, why are some human beings now attempting to take it away? Do you in addition to could do away with Jordan, Pakistan, and different worldwide places created via UN votes? The Jews have been already residing there, some for many centuries, others from the turn of the century, others who won visas to stay there whilst it replaced right into a British Mandate. Land replaced into bought, no longer stolen. in case you opt for to argue appropriate to the submit 1967 borders, then you certainly could come across how disputed territories are desperate in wars, and bypass away the non secular arguments aside. what is going on now could be a land conflict. There are non secular arguments to be made as to why the two side feels the land is significant to them, yet that isn't what's being fought over via the final public of human beings. No Jews are at present residing in Gaza, and it incredibly is getting used to deliver rockets into civilian cities - often times over one thousand a week. if it incredibly is the Palestinians' land, why are they making use of it to salary conflict rather of create a rustic they'd be happy with the place human beings can stay freely (no longer to show the place human beings of all religions could stay freely - whilst Arab muslims and Christians would properly be finished Israeli electorate, all and sundry accepts that an self sustaining Palestine would be Jew-unfastened -- meanwhile Christians have been fleeing Bethlehem in great numbers ever considering Hamas won lots of seats in parliament - making even a Christian Palestinian presence no longer likely fifty years from now)? If the Palestinians would end the assaults and settle for that Israel has a top to exist, they'd have a place of beginning place the following day. there have been actual peace agreements on the table many times, and that they stroll away and choose violence rather. Israel is a actuality. a actual united states of america, that exists, created via the finished present day worldwide. G-d has no longer something to do with it. in case you're on the fringe of the thugs and terrorists who can no longer share (no longer all Palestinians - people who're in a state of jihad), what style of middle East do you think in?

Does not God act through people?

And did not the Israels get the land, after a long period of not being hostile?

And are they not subject to losing parts of the land now where they have been militant?

I'm sorry you reject even the possibility that God used the UN to his will --- and demand that we show you how God acted.
But show me the last time that God changed a political border on a map directly -- or changed the political structure of a country by appearing in person -- it doesn't happen. All such changes happen through people.

A book written 2000 years ago claims that "God" said this. No one knows for sure whether the book is true or not. The current situation is a prime example of why religion, in any form, should not be the basis of political decisions, particularly when the opposing side have different religions.

Wasn't it a Brit idea? Don't the Brittish cause all of the problems in the world?

Look back. Ireland, Scotland, America, the Falklands, slavery, the hidden Roman Empire. The Anglican church.

The Brittish are the problem... .let's go "get" 'em.

I don't see God here doing anything about it, so I guess it's up to the UN, or so they think. Keep in mind though, that I love GOD and hate the UN.

And just why do Jews think they are so g-o-d d-a-m-n special anyway? I wish we would withdraw all the support we give them and let them stand or fall on their own.

coragryph, aren't you forgetting all the terrorist acts Jews were responsible for BEFORE Israel was given to them?
