I see a lot of comments regarding how boring todays race was, and the lack of overtaking but that is always the situation at Monaco.
If they allowed you to start on pole positon you could win that race in a pedal car, it is just impossible to pass anyone on that circuit.
Something must be done about F1 though, it's so sterile and boring.

I think that Monaco should be removed from the list but I also believe that the layout of many other circuits also prohibit entertaining racing. As with many sports, technology has overtaken the thought processes of the venerable designers of the tracks, courses, courts and playing fields. Golf and tennis are other prime examples.
However, I believe that Formula 1 will not leave Monaco nor will they care if their sport is boring. After all, thousands turn up on the day and even for the practice sessions.
As with all criticisms, we comment mainly on what we see on television. I now find that touring cars and GP2 provide the best and most exciting racing on the box. I have also started to watch MotoGP. Perhaps motorbikes might try a spin around Monaco and see if they can perform overtaking manoeuvres on this ancient track.

Monaco is one of the most unique tracks in f1. It might not be ideal for overtaking but there are lots of places drivers can make mistakes and even crash out in the race or during qualifying. They have been racing in monaco for a long time, I don't think that they should remove it from the calendar just because some people (probably americans) find it boring. I don't find it boring at all...

Another thing about monaco, it is where many of the teams like to wine and dine their sponsors. I heard about mclaren mercedes having busloads of their sponsors and taking them to various events during the weekend.

Monaco is the last of the old historic circuits in Grand Prix racing. First run in 1929, it is retained because it is the one none of the F1 folks is willing to let go.

It is loved for its place in the history of the sport, for the glitteratti, and the parties.

The track itself has changed a great deal in the days since Jackie Stewart started the push for greater safety in Formula One.

As for the lack of overtaking, it has always been complained at Monaco that there is no room to pass; heck, even Jim Garner's character in Grand Prix complains of no room to pass. ;)

I think the race should be kept. I think it rests in the hands of the drivers to make it entertaining and often they do.

While Monaco as a F-1 track is not as popular with the F-1 management as say a new track designed for mega fans at an Asian location, it does have so much history in World Championship racing to let go.Its a race I've always dreamed of attending. Its color, pomp and place in F-1 history are well documented.

the monaco gp will never be removed. it brings in the most money to formula one, attracts the most sponsors for the teams, is the best exposure for the sport and has been on the calendar since the start of f1 in 1950. its a historical part of f1. monaco might lack overtaking, but makes up in atmosphere and the unavoidable crashes each year.

its the cars not the tracks, if champ car can have passing at long beach then f1 drivers could make passes at monoco, if the cars wouldnt washout when they got within reach of passing oh and dont forget safety cars, that what made last years monoco grand prix exciting, bunch them up and let them go racing, any one here going to try and tell me it wouldnt have made a more exciting ending if they would have brought out the safety car when davidsons car was stuck half way out on the track ?

I agree,it has got too clinical,I suppose one way of getting a bit more excitement into the sport would be to relax the rules on engine and chassis design.
As in the situation with the groundforce cars and the water ballasted cars.this led to more competitiveness and variation in the cars and so it became more popular but it was soon banned because according to the powers that be (Eclestien and Co) the cars would be going too fast!
This is supposed to be formula one for gods sake,if any team doesn't like it then they can go.
Or they could develop a similar thing to the premiership in footie.
Whatever, It needs sorting out,and only the fans and paying audience can affect change in my opinion.

NO

Not only because of its history but because street races add something to the championship - at least one of the new ones next year is a street race.

As for overtaking, it's not much worse than todays track.

no, but I do think that they should have a rotation system in the Countries e.g: in Britain, they should have it at Brands Hatch, then the next year in Silverstone, and then in Donnington Park, if they can, it would give more variety to the races, and everybody gets an equal share of the race profits!
