The company that owns the builder of the collapsed I-35W bridge in Minnesota issued a statement late Monday, pledging its assistance in the aftermath of the disaster.

In a press release, Pasadena-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE: JEC) said its management and employees extended their sympathy to those affected by the event.

Jacobs, an $8 billion engineering and contracting firm, didn't design the bridge itself, but in 1999 it acquired Maryland Heights, Mo.-based Sverdrup Corp., a predecessor of Sverdrup & Parcel and Associates Inc. That company worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation on the design of the bridge.

Jacobs said it was "prepared to provide any assistance that MnDOT or other authorities involved in the investigation of this tragic incident may require."

I don't remember the name but, I doubt he designed it to be overhauled daily. Kind of strange that it didn't collapse until the construction crew went to work on it.
