Butterflies in the stomach is a medical condition characterized by the physical sensation of an unpleasant "fluttery" or "tickling" (hence butterflies) feeling in the stomach. Some believe that this is caused by the release of epinephrine, or adrenaline, when one is nervous, pulling blood away from the stomach and sending it to the muscles. This in turn causes the stomach to temporarily shut down, possibly the reason for loss of appetite when one is "love sick". Butterflies in the stomach is most often experienced prior to important events, when stress is induced, but can be experienced in situations of impending danger.

old time cash registers had a bell inside which went ca-ching everytime a sale was made. So the ca-ching was the sound of a bell(it was not dingaling-or dingdong or dingding) as the moneydrawer opened "ca" at the same time the bell rang once"ching". This was a way of notifying the store employee that the drawer was being opened, so a theft was not possible without somebody hearing. You had to be there, yeh, yeh, yeh.

I can't seem to find the origin of this phrase but i believe it's an American slang.

Having said that, i believe it's very apt to describe that fluttery feeling we all get at one point or another.
