It seems there is a link between the rise of working women and the rise in childhood obesity. Women who have careers are too tired to cook and therefore order out, bring home take out, microwave junk food, or take the kids to fast food. Ofcourse, that is if they are lucky she does anything for them at all. They might have to fend for themselves for dinner and ofcourse if they do they are going to eat foods rich in fat, sugar, and sodium.

Definitely. A two-person income is almost a necessity nowadays, and with parents busy as hell, it's all you can do for some time to relax. The easiest & cheapest way to do that is fast food, cheap food, etc. Ramen Noodle dinners. Pizzas. You name it. There are all these recipes out there for quick, easy, healthy recipes, but who even has time for recipes?

To previous answerer: What is a better education worth? I know a lot of people with college degrees who don't get paid worth a damn because nobody cares about a college degree. Unless you're going for a specialized education, skip college. There is more value in the job experience you can pick up during the time you would otherwise be at college.

There could be something to this, but these days it's rarely possible to care for a family on a one paycheck family. Too often both mother and father need to work to be able to put food on the table or afford healthcare, even if one parent would prefer to stay home with the children. I know I'd prefer to stay home, at least for the first few years, if I had a child. I don't know if that would be possible though. Keep in mind, that not all children of two working parents are obese. There are some who are able to plan enough that fast food isn't relied upon. Sometimes a little planning is all that's needed. For example, perhaps on one day during the weekend, most of the prepwork for the weeks dinners could be taken care of then. Freezers are good for this. If you're planning a casserole for dinner, make an extra one and stick it in the freezer. This way, you have something that takes very little time to prepare on a night when you're too busy and too tired to slave in the kitchen.

Yes I agree to some extent but I think it's only a small part of the problem.

The basic problem is that there is too much food available and often the most appealing is the stuff thats bad for us.

Also there is less incentive and opportunity for people to go out and exercise.
Not all working mothers feed thier kids junk.

I am a full time working mum of 3 and cook batches of home made food at the weekend or I use a slow cooker so we all have a proper meal every day!!

It's possible....but not all working mothers are that way...I have been both a working mom and a stay at home mom....( currently stay at home...which is what I enjoy the most) but when I worked I would cook. Now I am no where near perfect....yes, we ate and still do eat junk food...(who doesn't) but your theory is very possible.

But it is not all moms fault. Dad should help but way too many won't. Society has made it almost impossible for a woman to stay at home to tend to her family. It takes 2 full time paychecks to just get by. There are a lot of women that deal with the guilt of leaving her family but she has no other option.

Another area to lay blame on is the businesses. They won't take into consideration that people have families too. Try to take a day off to go on a field trip.....or your child just doesn't feel well....it's your daughters sweet 16 and you need to plan for the big day....yeah right.

So you can't lay all the blame on the women. It takes the downfall of a whole society to create the problems we have today.

I agree with Nicky's Mom and Warrior Princess. Lots of mom's don't have a choice but to work. Childhood obesity comes from the WRONG foods, not from "not cooking". In our house, we do not buy chips, cookies, cokes, etc. My kids have learned to love fruit (still working on the veggies, lol). Portion control is important too.
Also, I make my kids have at least 30 minutes of run-around time each day. Whether we go to the inside play area at the church, or we just go outside on the trampoline, they are getting excercise.
We also have pets, a cat and dog and fish. It is widely known that having pets is a great stress-reliever, and people who are not nearly as stressed are less likely to become obese.
Diabetes runs in my family, as well as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, ect. It is up to me to make sure my kids are given the right choices. They understand why we don't put a lot of salt, butter, etc on our foods. They also understand why we dont get a lot of "junk" food. We do occasionally get a small pack of cookies. But we do not let the package "linger" for long. Same with cokes, chips, etc.
It's all about balance.

The implication that children of working mothers are lucky if their mother's feed them is absolute stupidity on your part. You seem to have this caveman belief that a woman cannot work and be an excellent mother. How sad!! There have been studies that have linked obesity to school vending machines. Are you going to propose next that female students should not go to school? Actually, I think you would. Obesity is triggered by what you eat not if your mom works or stays home. Get a clue!

I do think there is a time crunch, especially for single, working parents. And fast food may be part of the problem.

The other part of the problem is with couples where only one partner is responsible for the acivities of daily living. When you have children the luxury of opting out on responsibilites has repurcussions. Both parents need to be willing to share the daily responsibilities.

The other contributing factor, I think, is video games. Kids don't get out, parents don't complain, because for once in their lives, they know where their kids are.

Its a real snafu.

You can't really blame this on Mommies, though. I'd have to ask, are the responsiblities shared? Or is she just responsible for everything? Could be part of the glitch.

Man just come home and sit in front of TV. Woman gets exhaused. Kids get fat.

That may be part of it, too.....

Well you are probably right, but I don't have a choice. I do try to keep healthy food and snacks in the house, but did you know healthy is twice the price and sometimes I don't have that much in the budget.
Kind of screwed no matter how you look at it.
Actually it's not so bad now, but when I was a single mom raising 3 kids it was real bad. I didn't want them eating junk and unhealthy but I couldn't afford healthy.

"Lucky if she does anything for them at all"??? What the hell is that?! Females and mothers do enough. At a certain age a child can 'fend' for him or her self. It teaching them how to cook and take care of themselves. If the mother or parent did it all the time the child would not know what to do when he or she had to move out. They would become spoiled. I see your point here, but it's not just the mothers fault. The farther can help out with the children and the house, the children should know whats good for them and should know how to take care of themselves. How dare you blame females and mothers like that!

Many common natural remedies are claimed to have blood sugar lowering properties that make them useful for people with or at high risk of diabetes. Learn here https://tr.im/BupiZ

A number of clinical studies have been carried out in recent years that show potential links between herbal therapies and improved blood glucose control, which has led to an increase in people with diabetes using these more 'natural' ingredients to help manage their condition.
