Silence can be an effective communication tool... but it has to be accompanied by an appropriate facial expression or gesture. To take a simple example, I can say "get out" without saying a word. I can also say "speak to the hand" or "up yours buddy". I can communicate pleasure or disdain all without speaking a word. A simple glare is an effective method of signaling disagreement. A riased eyeborw can simply indicate disbelief. Silence itself can also be misleading or deceptive conduct and show a want of due care.
I use silence regularly as a means of communicating.

not to make a point, just because I'm afraid I might say the wrong thing while I am angry, and thatz why I become silent. Or Unless I feel ill...

i TRY to use the silent treatment..but i never truly think it makes my point..It just either makes the other person mad or they really dont care at all...so in the end..i always just end up giving up the silence...;p

i hate 'the silent treatment'. i personally think it's very immature. if you have something to say, then say it. don't ignore someone just to get your point across. it usually means you just want attention.

Silence is my language, works like a bomb. Works on me too. I believe it's the language most people understand best.

Yes and No... I don't do the one-on-one conflict thing, so I walk away and say nothing; UNLESS, there is some great societal wrong happening...

I would, but then my husband would just let me be silent! I'd rather just argue it out. If I'm going to be miserable, so's he.

No. People, especially couples need to communicate. Without communication, there is breakdown.
