People are always suspicious of the unknown. Most Americans have health insurance through their employers and for most of them it works pretty well. They don't quite understand what it's like for those without insurance, and don't really consider it their problem. They feel these people should get jobs or get better jobs like they have. Of course the reality is that uninsured Americans affect all of us, from backups at emergency rooms to the social disintegration resulting when one segment of society has no access to benefits others take for granted. But these issues are complicated and largely invisible. Of course it doesn't help that insurance comapnies and their hired politicians constantly raise the spectre of "Big brother" when universal health care is discussed. It will take a courageous leader with vision to turn this around.

Firstly, Socialism doesn't work, only Capitalism does. That's self-evidently true. If you want poverty and misery, you choose Socialism. If you want wealth and prosperity, you choose Capitalism.
Secondly, all powers not expressly granted to the federal government by the Constitution are denied to it (10th Amendment). Because there is no power in the Constitution to create a "universal health care system," the federal government may not create such a system unless it first amends the Constitution.
In Canada, people have the choices of either dying while waiting for critical medical care from the Government Health Care system or either going to America or buying it off the "Black" Market. America has the best Health Care system in the World, even though it is imperfect (Fascist Medicine is better than Socialized Medicine, but Free Market Medicine would be far more desirable). No sane American would give up our Health Care system for a poor quality one such as the system they have in Cuba that Michael Moore loves so much.

There does no longer be any unfastened business enterprise in medical coverage if there is gov't controlled well being care. there is not any longer a enterprise on earth that can compete with a gov't entity. basically the gov't can function at a severe loss and shop operation at ever increasing losses. have you ever observed the dimensions of the debt and the deficit? How can any enterprise function like that? they'd't for extremely long.

1) Increases government control over our lives.
2) Anything run by government is generally less efficient than private practice.
3) Would increase the burden of labor on our shortage of medical staff.
4) Longer wait times. Much longer. Try waiting four hours instead of one to see a doctor. Or waiting months or years for an important surgery.
5) Folks would have to share crowded waiting rooms with indigent street people. Nothing like some boisterous drug addict coughing his TB germs in your face.
6) Higher taxes, because now you have to pay for YOUR healthcare, and the streetperson's healthcare.

first of all, call it what it is socialized medicine. Why would you you want to regress to that. Are you willing to wait a period of time for , lets say emergency by-pass surgery? Or have the government dictate and decide your treatment based on cost? Or wait weeks to see a doctor, and only have two min of his time Ask anyone in Canada, UK, FR< Cuba for that matter how they like the system. why do people come to the US for medical treatment? I'll bet its not because we give out loli popps. and when has the government ever run anything effectively? ie: social security, medicade, IRS, anyone who tells you different is full of that left wing BS and have no grasp of reality

If "universal" (AKA socialized) health care is so great...why are there Canadians and Europeans (both of which utilize universal/socialized health care) flying to America to use our specialists?
If "universal" (AKA socialized) health care is so great...then why did Fidel Castro use one of his private jets to fly a Spanish doctor and all his equipment from Spain to Cuba for his procedure last year instead of using one of those lovely Cuba facilities highlighted in SiCKO?

everything is more inefficient when government gets involved, look at all other aspects of government, look at your local DMV. you want your healthcare run that like that is run? and when people pay their own way, they are more careful and don't run to emergency room via ambulance for every little problem they have, like is done now with medicaid . lets make it more affordable and let people pay their own way, but lets not put it in the hands of the government, everything only gets worse when government gets involved.

They have been told they dont by the medical industry who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.
The lobbyists for the industry have spent tens of millions,(and enriched themselves) making sure the politicians keep things just the way they are.
