This was in response to a question just asked on "This Week" about how candidates would direct the war. It's currently playing on ABC this Sunday morning.

Paraphrasing, Rudy said that: "We need to be tough and not weak and determined to not settle for peace because you cannot negotiate with these insurgents." Was this a slip of the tongue? Does anyone else pick up on him equating "peace" with the word "weak"?

OK... I get the "not negotiating with insurgents" part, but why is "weakness" and "peace" decidedly off the table for this guy? Oh, Jesus wept!

I think we are on...what is it...the 5th Crusades...Holy War has been declared by both sides....just the beginning and will go on for decades...it could really lead to some bad stuff...Can we keep it "over there"...I doubt it....I am a liberal, but I think the snowball may be just starting to roll...it might get to the point that it is useless to lay blame while you're fighting for your life, running from the fires...but I think the next few years are critical to get peace as an option for both us and our enemies, hopefully Bush and his Republican war will become a footnote...I do reach for the Bible and try to analyze how some nut will intrepret Revelations

I am a Christian and peace is of course the objective, BUT... Peace at any cost? Are you willing to give up your freedoms just for peace? Then that is not true peace is it? Thanks to the Clintons of the world, we have overlooked a very important factor in what made this country so great. Setting a standard of morality and decency has become antique. Clinton had Ben Lauden in his sights....now we are in Iraq. For better or worse, we have to rebuild an image of strength. Those of you who say one has nothing to do with the other, you may be right. We can't change the past, but why are we not learning from it as well.

Did not Bush Sr. give arms to Saddam? What are we doing now? Will we be in another war in 4 to 8 years? This is not a party issue but the unfortunately turn of events in continually electing men who cannot see beyond their own personal agendas.

Clinton set the tone and Bush continues to play a sad tune.

First, Rudy never said peace was bad. The problem is, peace is a two-way street. If one side wants peace and the other does not, there is no peace. Secondly, weakness is bad. Yes, Jesus believed in peace, but in no way was he weak. Jesus looked pretty strong when he overturned the money changers tables in the temple.

Is it more cowardly (weak) to promote peace over conflict?
Yes, if promoting peace prevents you from protecting people and coming to the defense of another.

For myself, "non-violent (peaceful) resistance" always struck me as more difficult and brave than "physical (violent) conflict", which any bully is capable of...
To go on the field of battle and dodge bullets to protect people is infinitely more difficult and brave than to carry around peace signs in a march. Maybe you should pick up your bible and read Jesus quote of: "There is no greater love than to lay down your life for another." That is difficult and brave.

I'm sure I can misinterpret the bible to justify anything but Jesus message is clear. As a nation we have never promoted a Christian philosophy with our friends/enemies. Our foreign policy is based on the answer to this question. How can we make more money?

The bible is full of examples of strength. In fact, one section talks about finishing your enemy off completely, lest it regrow.
