Aha, I got caught in my own complaint about carelessness. "wouldn't" is the word. I can spell, but I am a bad typist.

I agree!! And you know what the horrible thing is - this phenomenon has infiltrated the world of business communications!

Can you believe that when I was looking to hire someone for the company I work for, I actually got cover letters containing Internet shorthand? They were, um... well, I did read them but I didn't call.

My hubby, who's a teacher, has also gotten papers turned in with phrases like IDK and LOL... And I think you get graded down on that sort of thing.

So kids, take note: Internet shorthand has its place, and you look a lot smarter when it stays in IM's and text messages where it belongs!

The simple answers is laziness, in my opinion.
People get used to using slang and " Internet shorthand " in chat rooms and while text messaging to others and forget the basic rules of grammar and punctuation.
Ignoring the convenience of a simple but useful tool like spell check reflects poorly on the the person posting the question or reply and does render their query (or response) less likely to be taken seriously.

regrettably because of the fact they do no longer look to be precise knowledgeable, or are apathetic. regrettably there seems to be a clean norm in united statesa.. Being ignorant and being completely please and chuffed that lack of information is in basic terms cool. Why they do no longer use spelling and grammar tests is previous reasoning. would be incredibly elementary to no longer make your self seem such as you do no longer understand the thank you to write down. you employ of examine is large and appropriate. I see all the final excuses. i do no longer see everybody blaming themselves. sure, rather unhappy. I carry out interior the Seniors class. you will think of older human beings would have found out. yet no, numerous the regulars there are worse than grade college teenagers. unhappy fact certainly. I see yet another no longer so expert, expert. A sentence can initiate with an "And" or maybe a "yet". Please do no longer criticize human beings in case you haven't any longer a clue.

I suspect the majority of those are younger people, who are used to text messaging. Text messaging uses a lot of shorthand because each letter costs money and it's terribly inefficient to type. Also it takes extra care and attention that they don't want to focus on.

Spelling, on the other hand, crosses a wider age range, I think, and has to do with both education level, practice writing, and occasional typos.

I believe some people here use bad spelling and grammar on purpose; others do it because they are just lousy spellers and others just don't give a crap about their spelling OR spell check.

And, sometimes people just don't realize they've made a typo - like your spelling of the word "wouldn't".

Laziness and immaturity. I can't say lack of education with the mandatory requirements now. I wish they would realize how sloppy and disrespectful to communication it looks.

We have all heard that the American school program "No Child Left Behind" is a failure. Yahoo Q and A is proof.
