I use a website called esnipe. http://www.esnipe.com/

They allow you 'x' number of free snipes (5 I think, don't remember) and then you pay for future ones but they are quite cheap. You register with the site, tell it what auction to bid on, how high to go, and how many seconds before the end of the auction to log on and place your bid.

I've won a number of items that way and never had an issue with the site.

Sniping software allows you to bid at the last second, instead of putting a max bid on ebay and other people bidding on the item and finding what your max is and topping it. You don't get caught up in a bidding war.

Yes. You can do it by downloading "sniping" software. You can also subscribe to an online service. Here is one: http://www.bidnapper.com

If you put the amount you are willing to go up to, they will bid on your behalf up to that amount.
