Is this a sign of cheap carpet or do I need a new vac? The dirt devil vac I have worked fine on the old carpet.

use a rigid brand shop vac. (6.5 hp) It will take care of the problem with no problem.

This is very common; there is a lot of fuzz from the install and from new carpet. After about 10 vacuum jobs the problem will be gone.

I had the same problem after having very expensive carpet installed in our living room, the installers even vacuumed it once before I did. They informed me it is normel for a high grade of carpet to (shed) for awhile.

New carpet usually sheds. The better the carpet the longer it will shed.

very common. carpets contain a lot of loose fiber when new. Vacume a bunch of times to get rid of it.
